New Bosch Tour+ eBike Tech Optimizes Range, Cuts Toggling

Tips & Reviews

Do you want eMTB software that only helps you when you need it? Maybe something that optimizes range so you can get further into the gnar?

Bosch has you covered with its new Tour+, introduced in early July. The programming assists in the choppy stuff but automatically backs off when you’re in the flat. The result is an increased range and a more natural feel when riding.

Brand PR says the tech encourages eBike riders to exert “marginally greater effort on flatter terrain” in exchange for extended range. It also notes the update eliminates the need to manually toggle between non-assisted (Eco) and assisted (Turbo) modes.

“With the Tour+ riding mode, eBike riders who like to exert themselves a little more and put more of their own effort into pedaling get a comfort-oriented and range-optimized support level,” said Claus Fleischer, CEO of Bosch eBike Systems.

“There is no need to switch between the familiar modes; riders can devote themselves completely to their eBike experience and enjoy maximum riding pleasure.”

Bosch Tour+ Tech Overview and Availability

It’s been a while since Bosch made a splash by introducing its dynamic assistance for electric mountain bikes in 2017. Three years later, the Bosch eMTB tech is still highly regarded for its sophistication and performance. The new Tour+ software builds on the successful platform by advancing its capability.

Tour+ measures data more than 1,000 times per second to determine optimum
support. The degree of assistance varies continuously, with the purpose oriented toward creating a natural pedaling sensation. Power adjustments are based on pedal pressure.

The software also reduces the rider’s burden of determining range. Still, according to Bosch Tour+ data, it does assist riders more heavily on the uphill.
