Urwahn Acros EDT opens up 3D-printed steel gravel bikes with no seat tube

Tips & Reviews

Urwahn bikes’ unique 3D-printed steel frame without a seat tube is ready to hit the gravel roads in a new Acros EDT special edition. Widened out to fit proper fast-rolling gravel tires, the wild frame design could just be perfect for smoothing out the chatter of off-road riding, and pairs surprisingly well with a Lauf Grit SL gravel suspension fork…

From their early swoopy urban Urwahn prototypes, these bikes have always been eye-catchers. Originally said to have been an engineering experiment to combine integration, aerodynamics & a smooth ride over city streets, the Urwahn project has evolved into some truly unique and usable commuter builds, even adding a stealthy e-bike option.

Now they’ve taken the flexibility of their additive manufacturing 3D-printed steel lugged construction to take their monocoque-look steel frame wider into gravel territory.

Urwahn has always talked about the possibility of creating special editions of their no-seattube design concept, and this Acros Gravel Bike Edition seems to be a perfect showcase. The elastic nature of steel is said to smooth out the ride over rough dirt & gravel roads, and is paired with a lightweight Lauf Grit SL gravel suspension fork up front for a silky-smooth ride.

The frame itself includes a break in the seatstay to make it belt-drive friendly, plus BB386EVO/BSA threaded/eccentric bottom bracket options for singlespeed or geared hub builds. It also features 12mm thru-axles through the modular dropout, flat mount disc brakes, and a 27.2mm seatpost.

To keep the whole build light & stiff, the Urwahn Acros EDT is built up with 21mm internal x 45mm deep carbon Acros Allroad wheels, a SRAM Force AXS drivetrain (nowhere to mount a front derailleur), an Ingrid POP crankset, and 40mm Continental Terra Speed gravel tires.

Of course, being a limited Acros edition, it also gets fully internal cable routing with an Acros carbon gravel bar, Satori Viper stem & Acros AIX ICR headset.
